The Union Ministry of Higher Education and NAAC has announced new guidelines for institutes seeking accreditation from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) from the academic year 2021-22, The NAAC has announced that all the institutes which have completed one-year can apply for “Provisional Accreditation Certificate (PAC)” from NAAC. The authorities stated that according to the old guidelines the institutes had to complete six years before applying for accreditation from NAAC. But under new guidelines this has been changed and now all the institutes which have completed a minimum of one-year are eligible to apply for NAAC accreditation.
According to official data from NAAC, as on October 26th, 2021, the NAAC has issued 13,971 accreditations that remain valid for next five years. The authorities further stated that there were only 12 universities and 64 colleges that have been reviewed by the NAAC four times, with a gap of five years between each grading. The officials stated that under the new guidelines the “Provisional Accreditation for colleges (PAC) “prepares the institutes to become ready for the final NAAC accreditation.
All the Institutions that apply for the new PAC process will get feedback from the NAAC authorities about the preparedness for the final certification. This helps the institutes to integrate all the parameters required for NAAC final certification at the earliest and reapply for final accreditation.
The authorities also stated that the “National Education Policy (NEP) 2020” focuses more on development of quality education institutes across the country and the provisional accreditation for colleges is the major step towards achieving the high-quality standards of education at a lesser time.
