IIT JEE Entrance Exam to be conducted in 25 foreign countries

In the wake of growing demand from foreign students to join IITs in India, the government has decided to increase the number of overseas exam centres for the IIT-JEE entrance exam. The IIT JEE exam will now be conducted in the United States of America, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, China, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam along with existing overseas exam centres.

The decision was taken by the Union Ministry of Education to increase the opportunity for NRIs and foreign students from these countries to take the IIT-JEE entrance exam and get enrolled to the top technical institutions in India under the Direct Admission of Student Abroad (DASA) scheme. 

The government is further in the process of setting up overseas IIT campuses abroad at a faster pace. The decision also allows the students to get admissions to all the National Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Information Technology, School of Planning and Architecture, and other technical institutions that are funded by the Central government.

Dr. R P Tiwari, vice-chancellor Central University of Punjab, welcomed the move and stated that there would be increased competition from their NRI counterparts and other foreign students. This will also provide an opportunity for our students to interact with students from varied cultures and value systems from across time zones.

Dr. B J Rao, vice-chancellor, University of Hyderabad (UoH) also welcomed the decision and stated that this can be termed as a part of India’s globalisation strategy and this creates enormous opportunities for all the students to be recognised globally.

The Union Ministry of Education officials stated that many foreign countries have shown interest in setting

 up Indian HEIs campuses on their land due to the country’s existing high education power in terms of teaching, content and scholarships.
