At emergency departments the emergency physicians can diagnose the real issue within seconds that usually take days or weeks in a typical out-patient-department.

• Variety: Emergency physicians see numerous varieties of patients that includes babies, elderly patients, the critically ill, pregnant patients, psychiatrist patients and most important accident victims, eventually the people from every walk of life. Emergency physicians give treatment to patients with all types of medical and surgical illnesses and injuries. 

• Flexible schedule: Emergency Physicians have a work schedule of 8-12 hours at a time, at all hours. The intense nature of emergency medicine, the schedule may extend to about 1500 to 2000 hours per year. Most of the emergency medicine physicians do not have any on-call time duties except in an emergency.

As a qualified Emergency Physician, one works in emergency departments of any hospitals. It may be both government and private hospitals. They have an opportunity to work in intensive care units (ICU) and critical cardiac care units (CCU). At initial days of career, the Emergency Physician will work in a team of emergency response doctors in hospitals and trauma care centres. As experience gains, they get the opportunity to lead a team of emergency doctors as a Lead Emergency Consultant.
As an Emergency consultant one may become a departmental head of the emergency department in hospitals and accident trauma care centres. They even have an opportunity to take up managerial positions in government and private hospitals. In the academic field they can join as head of the department of emergency medicine and treatment.

There are few roles available for MD Emergency Medicine professionals/doctors. They are generally hired in emergency care departments, trauma care centres, accident treatment hospitals, and sometimes in ICUs and CCUs. Some of the roles available after MD Emergency Medicine are:

• Emergency Medical Specialists: The emergency medical specialists work in the front lines of emergency medicine and are called as first respondents to treatment. They are the healthcare professionals and specially trained to quickly assess an emergency situation and stabilize the patients with emergency medicines. They are required to give first hand treatment to the patients and ensure that they are stable and responding to the treatments until the specialist arrives.

• Emergency Medicine Physicians: Emergency Medicine Physicians are doctors who are specifically trained to handle emergency medical situations.  They work in emergency departments of the hospitals. Their typical work schedule is around 12-hours, but sometimes may extend up to 16-18 hours depending on the emergency. They are required to diagnose patients of medical emergencies and ensure to keep them stable and alive until the specialists attend. They are required to monitor readings of life-support systems regularly to check for any complications. They prescribe and administer the life-saving drugs to the patients instantly and ensure they are safe and stable.

• Critical Care Physicians: The Critical Care Physicians generally work in intensive care units and critical cardiac care units in hospitals. They are responsible to look after the Intensive care patients for any complications. They are responsible to monitor the readings of life-support systems and prescribe medicines and treatments accordingly.
