There are ample job roles available for the diploma in medical lab technology students. The demand for skilled diploma in medical lab technology students is high. The present article tries to explore a few job roles available for diploma in medical lab technology students.

Medical/Clinical Technician

The medical technicians are basically responsible to diagnose the blood and urine samples of the patients and report the observations to the physician.

Roles of a Medical/Clinical Technician 

The Medical/Clinical technicians work with integrated systems and perform the diagnostic tests in the medical laboratories. They are seen working in hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, etc. Some of them are seen working in companies that produce medical equipment.

Responsibilities of the Medical/Clinical Technician

As a medical/clinical technician one is responsible to:

  • To collect the samples and specimens for the tests from the patients
  • They subject the samples and specimens to various tests using equipment to diagnose the disease or ailment in the patients
  • To record the findings and prepare the reports about their observations
  • To send the reports for the in-house pathologists for reviews and assist them in preparing the accurate reports
  • To sterilize and maintain the lab equipment used for the tests

Salary & Emoluments

The fresh diploma in medical/clinical lab technicians will be earning around 1.5 lakhs to 3 lakhs per annum. The experienced professionals will be earning around 3 lakhs to 4 lakhs per annum. The salary depends upon the location and recruiters.

Cytogenetic Technician

The cytogenetic technicians are the professionals who deal with the analysis of living cells in the living organisms.

Roles of the Cytogenetic Technician

The cytogenetic technician deals with the analysis of the living cells in the living organisms. They analyse the gene structure, genetic elements inside the cells.

Responsibilities of the Cytogenetic Technician

As a cytogenetic technician one is needed to:

  • To analyse the chromosomes and other genetic materials like RNA, DNA
  • To maintain the detailed notes of the observations from each sample. 
  • To detect the genetic abnormality in the living organisms and suggest the right treatment to the patients and rectify the anomaly. 
  • To inform the observations made by them to the lab manager. 
  • To make the detailed observation and generate the reports, so that the physicians can prescribe the treatments for the patients

Salary & Emoluments

Pathologist Assistant

The pathological assistants are required to study the pathogens that are causing the health issues in the patients.

Roles of a Pathologist Assistant

The main role of the pathologist assistant is to help to prepare the samples and tissues, blood for diagnosing in the sterile laboratory.

Responsibilities of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist

As a nuclear medicine technologist, one is responsible to

  • Give the protected and small doses of radioactive medicine to the patients under the direction of the certified physicians. 
  • Record the images of the organs using specialised equipment. 
  • Check for any malignant and cancerous tissues and cells
  • To give the patients the prescribed dosage of the radioactive materials in various forms like oral tablets or inhalation or through injections under the direction of the physician
  • To maintain the equipments regularly
  • To sterilise the equipments after every usage
  • To carefully dispose the radioactive waste generated after each test
