Introduction

The ‘Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS)’ under the National Defence Fund, was introduced from the academic year 2006 - 07 to encourage higher technical and professional education for the dependent ward and widows and their children of states and union territory police personnel martyred during terror/naxal attacks.

Funding

The ‘Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS)’ is 100% funded the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India  

Availability

Nearly, a total of 2000 scholarships (equally for both girls and boys) will be given for each academic year in addition to renewal cases of previous years. Similarly, a total 500 scholarships will be given to the wards of state police personnel who are martyred during Terror/Naxal attacks in equal number to the Boys and Girls.

Eligibility 

  • The children, wards and widows of deceased states and union territory police personnel died in terror attacks, naxal attacks, harness/election duty,
  • The children, widows and wards of personnel disabled due to causes attributable to government service and wards of Ex state and union territory police personnel in receipt of Gallantry Awards.
  • The children are pursuing their first professional degree programme in the field of Engineering, Medical, Dental, Veterinary, BBA, BCA, B. Pharma, B.Sc (Nursing, Agriculture, etc.), MBA and MCA etc.
  • The students have a minimum 60% marks in Minimum Entry Qualification (MEQ) i.e., 10+2/ Diploma/Graduation or Equivalent in case of new applicants.
  • For applicants applying under renewal category, it is mandatory to pass each subsequent academic year of the professional courses being pursued by them with minimum 50% marks. 

Duration

The scholarship is provided up to the duration of 5 years (depending upon the duration of the course being pursued by the applicant and as approved by the respective body). 

Benefits

  • A scholarship amount of Rs 3000/month for girls and 2500/month for boys is provided
  • To be paid annually after selection an amount of Rs 36,000 to each girl and Rs 30,000 to each boy

Mode of Application

The scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). It is mandatory for all students to apply online on the website i.e. www.scholarships.gov.in.

Documents Required

  • The mark sheet that shows 60% of marks secured in the Class X
  • Certificate issued by the Director/Principal/Head of the Institute.
  • Tuition fee receipt
  • Certificate issued by the government official not less than the rank of Tahsildar
  • AADHAR seeded Bank Pass Book in the name of the student indicating Account number, IFSC code and photograph
  •  AADHAR Card
  • Declaration by wards and widowed parent duly signed stating that the information provided about their child is correct and that they will refund the scholarship amount, if found false at any stage
