PG Scholarship Scheme for SC/ST Students for Pursuing Professional Courses - UGC SCHEMES - Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)

Introduction

 The ‘PG Scholarship Scheme for SC/ST’ scheme is awarded to the candidates from the deprived section of the society. The scholarship provides them an opportunity to undertake postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects like Engineering and Technology, Management, Pharmacy etc. in Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges.

 Funding

 The ‘PG Scholarship Scheme for Sc/ST” scheme is 100% funded by MHRD and executed by UGC.

 Availability

 Every year the scholarship provides financial assistance to 1000 SC/ST candidates to pursue postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects.

Eligibility 

Students who are pursuing Professional courses in the following Institutions/Colleges/Universities:

• Universities/Institutions/Colleges included under section 2(f) & and 12(B) of UGC Act.
• Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC
• Universities/Institutions/College funded by Central/State Government/ Union Administration.
• Institutes of National Importance.
• The courses which require approval from Regulatory Council i.e. Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India (DCI), Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), NCTIS, NCTE Bar council of India (BCI), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Nursing Council (INC), Forensic Regulatory and Development Authority of India are considered professional courses.

Duration

• The scholarship is given for 2 to 3 years depending upon tenure of the postgraduate course and not for extended period of study
• The scholarship granted under the scheme will be kept renewed during the period of first year postgraduate course subject to good conduct and maintenance of prescribed attendance.

Benefits

• The candidates selected for the award of PG scholarships (under ME/MTech) shall be provided a scholarship of Rs.7800/month for the duration of the PG Scholarship.
• For other courses, the amount of scholarship will be Rs.4500/month.

Mode of Application

 The candidates fulfilling the eligibility conditions are required to apply online on National Scholarship Portal after issue of advertisement to be published by the UGC once in a year through leading newspaper and Employment News and also on UGC website. It is mandatory for all students to apply online on the website i.e. www.scholarships.gov.in.

Documents Required

• The degree completion certificate and marksheet
• Certificate issued by the Director/Principal/Head of the Institute.
• Tuition fee receipt
• Certificate issued by the government official not less than the rank of Tahsildar
• AADHAR seeded Bank Pass Book in the name of the student indicating Account number, IFSC code and photograph
• AADHAR Card
• Declaration by the parents duly signed stating that the information provided about their child is correct and that they will refund the scholarship amount, if found false at any stage
