India's CBSE Expands Internationally to Foster Global Collaboration in Education

In a move aimed at promoting global collaboration in education, the Indian government has announced plans to expand the reach of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) internationally acclaimed curriculum, CBSE-International or CBSE-i. This expansion comes in recognition of the effectiveness and alignment of CBSE-i with international standards, and the government's determination to provide quality education to students worldwide.

Forging Global Partnerships for Enhanced Educational Opportunities

Currently, CBSE-i is successfully implemented in 240 schools across 26 countries, catering to the educational needs of Indian families residing abroad. However, the government now seeks to extend the benefits of this curriculum to a wider global audience. By forging partnerships with school boards in other countries, particularly those in developed nations, India aims to enhance educational opportunities for Indian students and foster cross-cultural learning.

Shreevats Jaipuria, Chair of the Education Committee at PHDCCI, emphasises the significance of these collaborations in improving the quality of school education in India. As India assumes the G20 presidency this year, the government views wider partnerships with school boards worldwide as a crucial step towards aligning Indian education with global standards.

Positioning India as a Model for Educational Reform in Emerging Nations

The CBSE-International curriculum has received acclaim for its ability to cater to diverse learning styles while maintaining high academic standards. By expanding the international board, the government aims to provide students with access to global possibilities, allowing them to acquire the skills needed in today's interconnected world.

This initiative aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), positioning India as a model for educational reform in emerging nations. The NEP, hailed as a comprehensive and forward-looking policy document, was formulated after extensive consultation with stakeholders over six years. Shreevats Jaipuria suggests that other similar-sized emerging economies can easily adopt the NEP for their own education systems, with minor adjustments.
