MD Anaesthesiology ( Doctor of Medicine in Anaesthesiology)
Anaesthesiology or anaesthesia is the medical speciality that is concerned about complete preoperative care of patients before, during and after the surgery. It is an interdisciplinary study of different subjects like anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine and pain medicine. A physician specialised in this field of medicine is called an anaesthesiologist or anaesthetist.
Anaesthetists are the largest group of specialist doctors in hospitals and provide wide-ranging support to patients who are undergoing surgical, medical or psychiatric procedures. As an anaesthetist one is required to assess the patient’s health and discuss which type of anaesthetic is suitable for them. The anaesthetists then administer the appropriate anaesthetic agents before surgery, monitor their will-being during surgery and provide care after medical procedures. They are also responsible for dealing with emergencies in the operation theatre.
As an anaesthetist one is responsible to provide treatment to a wide range of conditions using appropriate form of anaesthetic agents that includes: General Anaesthesia, Regional Anaesthesia, or Local Anaesthesia. Patients can include babies, pregnant women, the elderly and those undergoing operations.

Eligibility
The candidate should be a graduate in Medicine (M.B.B.S)from any university recognised by the Medical Council of India. The candidate should have completed satisfactorily the Rotating compulsory internship of one year in an institution recognised by the Medical Council of India he candidate should have obtained permanent Registration of any State Medical Council. No candidate shall be admitted to any post graduate degree / diploma course unless the candidate has obtained and produced the eligibility certificate issued by the University.

Admission Process:
Candidates seeking admission to MD should mandatorily qualify NEET-PG Exam. The NEET qualified students are required to undergo two types of counselling.
1.The students seeking admission to medical colleges affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) should undergo the counselling conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).
2.The students seeking admission to deemed universities should undergo counselling conducted by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
